None of that has to come at the expense of function; the direction in closet design right now is toward spaces that are genuinely warmer and more personal without sacrificing the organization that makes a closet work.

Reach-ins and linen closets

Reach-ins, more common in secondary bedrooms and older Sarasota homes, need a different approach: making the most of a smaller footprint with configurable sections, shelving sized to the exact opening, and no wasted depth or dead corners. Linen closets are their own category too, usually shallow and narrow, where adjustable shelving with pull-out baskets keeps towels and linens organized without wasting the space.

Why humidity still matters here

Humidity matters in closets more than people expect, mostly because closets are low-airflow spaces by design, that’s exactly the environment where moisture sits instead of dissipating. Whatever finish or style direction a closet takes, the panel material underneath it still needs to be moisture-resistant; a musty closet in a Florida home is usually a materials-and-airflow problem, not a cleaning problem.
